International Programs

APSA’s Department of International Programs works to support the integrity and advancement of political science scholarship by promoting closer interaction between American and non-American political scientists and greater cross-fertilization of their substantive and methodological concerns. Enhancing APSA’s internationalization benefits the discipline by expanding our networks, enriching our theories, and broadening our perspectives. The Africa Workshops program was an eight-year collaboration with early-career political scientists in sub-Saharan Africa to enhance scholarly networks and support political science research across the region. From 2008-2015, over 230 scholars from 32 different countries took part in the initiative. For more information visit Africa Workshops at apsanet.org/africaworkshops.

Book Donation Program
As APSA continues to develop networks with institutions in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa, we are now partnering with a greater number of universities and research centers with significant financial and structural constraints. Many scholars at these institutions do not have access to the seminal literature and cutting-edge research developments in their field. The APSA book donation program seeks to address this challenge by connecting individual donors and publishers with university libraries in non-OECD countries.

APSA now accepts donations of research monographs and upper level books (textbooks accepted only with prior approval) on political science and allied humanities and social science topics. Books must be in good condition, with no visible rips, tears, or permanent margin notes. APSA will solicit, collect, and catalog donations, as well as coordinate shipping arrangements with receiving partners.

Receiving institutions include former host partners of APSA’s International Workshops, individual research centers in the CAORC network, and other partners.  Currently, this network extends through the following countries: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, and Tunisia. For more information, contact astinson@apsanet.org.

Targeted International Membership
APSA's Targeted International Membership (TIM) is available to scholars in low-income and lower-middle income countries.  Established as part of APSA's internationalization initiative in 2005, TIM provides the opportunity for scholars residing in eligible countries to become full members of the Association at a significantly reduced annual dues rate of $40 (U.S.) for up to three years. Benefits of TIM include complete access to APSA benefits, including: online services; discounted publications; eJOBS service; subscription to the electronic or hard copy versions of PS: Political Science & Politics, Perspectives on Politics, and the American Political Science Review; discounted registration for the Annual Meeting; and access to the Directory of Members.
