[“previous calendar year”: Many books contain both a publication date and a copyright date, and these may differ. Eligibility for APSA book awards is determined by the earlier of these dates that is printed with the publication information at the front of the book. For example, if the publication page has a printed copyright date of 2015, that is the date that applies even if the book was released in 2014. If the publication page includes a print or publication date of 2014, then that is the date that applies even if the copyright is 2015.]

    ↕ Arrangement

The Center hosts up to seven scholars for extended periods of time, ranging from weeks to months. Space for shorter “drop-in” stays is also available. Scholars are expected to pursue their own research and teaching projects and contribute to the intellectual life of the residential community by sharing their work with Center colleagues in occasional informal seminars.

Located within the Association's headquarters building near DuPont Circle, with easy access to the Washington Metro system, the Center offers visiting scholars furnished work space, telephone, fax, personal computers, Internet connection, conference space, a reference library, and library access at the George Washington University. Scholars are responsible for securing their own housing, but the Center will make every effort to assist scholars in locating suitable accommodations.

    ↕ Eligibiliy

Eligibility is limited to APSA members. Senior or junior faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students are strongly encouraged to apply.

    ↕ Application

A short application form is required for visiting scholar positions and for supplemental research awards. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. Visiting positions are awarded on a space availability basis, with major consideration given to the strength of the project proposal and successful external funding to support time in Washington.

    Visiting Scholar Application

    Supplemental Research Application

Applicants will be notified in the month following receipt of their application. The Center will contact applicants confirming their selections and they will be required to prepare a schedule for residence within four weeks of notification, confirming dates of their stay.

    Website

This group is a forum for scholars, graduate students, and community leaders to study Asian Pacific American politics, broadly defined. Our primary focus is Asian Americans (East Asians, Southeast Asians, South Asians) and Pacific Islanders (such as Native Hawaiians, Samoans) living in the United States, whether they are US citizens, legal immigrants, non- permanent visa holders, or undocumented immigrants. We study voting behavior, public opinion, political representation, racial /gender discrimination of Asian Pacific Americans, just to name a few. We conduct research at various levels—local, state, national, and transnational. We are open to a variety of methodological approaches—historical, qualitative (interview, fieldwork), statistical, experimental, and theoretical. Although many of our members study “Asian Americans,” we do not exclude those who study the “P”—Pacific Islanders.
